A Journey Soon to Come...

few days ago I arrived home to find a huge yellow envelope from the U.S. Department of Education.  Inside was one of the most exciting letters I've ever received!

Dear Stephanie Skiba,

On behalf of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to participate in the Fiscal Year 2010 Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program to Mexico.  The U.S. Department of Education's Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program is administered by the International Education Programs Service, Office of Postsecondary Education in cooperation with the Fulbright Commission, U.S. Department of State.

I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself!  Then the reality set in that I'd have to choose between a Masters program at Fordham to get my Educational Leadership degree, or the Fulbright to Mexico.  After creating a pro/con chart and talking with TONS of people, I finally made my decision to go to Mexico!  I've spent the last few days researching the cities/states I will travel to, reading the blogs of last year's participants, and reviewing the curriculum units that others have created as their culminating project...and now, I'm SUPER PUMPED...it's just too bad that I have to wait three more months until I leave!!

Here's a look at where I'll be going this summer...

Anyway, I've created this blog so that my family, friends, colleagues, and students can follow along with me as I embark on a journey doing what I love (traveling, meeting new people, discussing education, and trying new things!).  I can't wait to share my experiences with everyone.  I hope you will enjoy reading my entries as much as I know I will enjoy writing them!

Until I hear more news...Adios!
